Dominican Republic 2014: Angelyn Toth

During the first week of May, Univera Associates and Corporate Staff accompanied Serve First’s partner, Vitamin Angels, on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Though Univera has assisted Serve First on several of these trips, the DR was a first for Univera. While there, the Associates witnessed the mission of Serve First played out in real time, as the lives of some very deserving children were impacted with the gift of essential, life-giving micronutrients.

Below, you can get to know the lucky Associates who were chosen to attend this trip.  How does one prepare themselves for a trip to a place unlike any they’ve ever been?  Where things like clean drinking water, electricity and three square meals are considered luxuries instead of bare necessities?  Let’s find out…

Angelyn Toth

My name is Angelyn Toth and I live on the beautiful Island of Bowen in British Columbia, Canada. My daughter Kasara is in her final year at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon and gives thanks daily to Univera for the products that help her through exams and the finances received via our Univera businesses. Her plan is to specialize as an Equine Veterinarian.

I am fortunate to live in a 38-acre rainforest with fields, waterfalls and bird sanctuary. 20 years ago, this July, I bought a broken down, dilapidated sheep farm and turned it into a vibrant global retreat centre. It backs on to Crippen Park and has hosted many guests from around the world.  We have horses, a pot-belly pig, dog, cat and many wildlife creatures such as deer and eagles. I love animals and ride my horse as often as possible and hike my dog daily.  A day in the life of Angelyn begins with feeding all the animals, cleaning stables and paddocks and running back to my house to get on my first Univera call. The day winds down by tucking the horses in and making sure all is well at the centre.  I love this precious time of day.

Again I give thanks to my Univera business for helping me save my retreat centre from going back to the bank 9 years ago. I am blessed to have met so many wonderful people whose lives have been transformed by the products and community of Univera.

I have recently written a book for the profession of Relationship Marketing that came out of my direct experience and success.  It is being published and will be released in a few weeks.  It is entitled:

From Squeak to Roar  – Unleashing the Potential in your Relationship Marketing Tribe.

I can’t wait to share it with my team!

What is your favorite Univera Product and why?
My favorite product is actually a concoction of Xtra, Aloe and Greens combined. Yum yum. I feel like I am giving my body what it needs if I am on the run and do not have time to eat properly. It gives me the mental clarity, focus and energy I need with such a busy life.

What does Serve First mean to you?
Serve First sits as the foundation of what we are doing in Univera.  To know that children are directly being helped, by bringing people into our business is such a bonus to what we are doing. It brings balance and gratitude for all that we are receiving with Univera. It catches the attention of purpose driven, caring people.

How do you include the Serve First mission into your Univera business?
We let people know that Serve First is part of our mission and it attracts kind people who care into our business. Last week I was in Campbell River with Dr. Neil Tessler and I mentioned I would be going to the Dominican Republic for a Serve First project. After the presentation a beautiful young couple came over to me to let me know about the orphanage they own in Africa. It means so much to them that we have this Serve First consciousness. They are so excited to learn more and I believe will be coming to our Serve First Fundraiser this week. When they see how Univera can include their vision and mission, they will be signing up with us and I look forward to helping them succeed.

Describe how you felt when you found out that you had been chosen to go on the annual Serve First trip?
I remember hearing the announcement of the people going to the Dominican Republic this year and I was secretly jealous… lol. I really wanted to go. Then, a phone call came in and I was invited and I have to say I was elated at first then scared. Being a bit of a homebody with a huge project, my daughter and many people and animals to take care of, I thought “what if I die?” Then I relaxed and said it will be okay. Good to get out of my comfort zone and help people at levels I cannot even imagine.

What are your expectations about the Dominican Republic?
My expectations about the Dominican Republic are that it is vastly different than where I presently live with the privilege of clean water, healthy living and wealth. I know it will take a long time to get there from Bowen Island and I usually don’t like flying but know I must, so I will meditate or connect with people I meet on route. I sense it will be both rich and poor depending on where we will be staying and where we will be working on the Serve First mission. I expect to roll up my sleeves and work hard doing whatever is needed of me. I imagine I will have a perspective shift while I am there.

What are you doing to prepare for your trip physically, mentally and emotionally?
I am preparing myself by contemplating what is being actually asked of me by going on this trip; the journey to get there, and the experience of being there.  I hike every day and clean barns so I think I am physically fit for the mission.  While working on what I may be afraid of, I came upon this beautiful meditation in my daily reading book by Eileen Caddy from Findhorn Scotland.

Peace be unto you. To be at one with Me is to be at peace, for peace starts deep within the soul and then reflects itself without. Then when you have found inner peace and stability, you can go anywhere and withstand anything. You can even walk in the valley of the shadow of death and fear nothing, for with that inner peace comes serenity and tranquility, which nothing and no one can disturb or destroy. As you recognize and accept your true relationship with Me and do it as simply as a child without any complications, so will your whole life be filled with joy and thanksgiving. Then no fear can enter and you will appear to live a charmed life and to be fully protected, for where there is no fear, there is full protection. It is fear that opens the door to danger and leaves you vulnerable. Therefore banish fear, let my peace and love infill and enfold you and give eternal thanks.
